The Optical Science Group (OSG) is part of the Nanoelectronics and Biophotonics Center within the Beckman Institute at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. OSG is directed by P. Scott Carney.
Prof. Carney is an Assistant Professor with the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign and holds appointments with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology, and the Coordinated Science Laboratory.

The Optical Science Group is dedicated to research and education in optics, physics, and engineering. Work in OSG crosses the lines dividing physics from engineering, theory from experiment, research from education, and optics from other scientific pursuits. Some of the ongoing projects take advantage of recent advances in our basic understanding of scattering and the propagation of light to develop new imaging modalities. Other projects are aimed to add to our understanding of emergent behavior in the interaction of light with novel materials.
Work in OSG is funded by NASA, the NSF, the Airforce, and the Beckman Foundation.
